Joujouka Black Eyes CD available again from this weekend
Joujouka Black Eyes the 1995 classic release by The Master Musicians of Joujouka is now available at our store.The CD was the first production by Frank Rynne of The Master Musicians of Joujouka and was the first release by the Masters on the Sub Rosa label. Recorded over a nine week period in 1994; it features both large ensembles and small groups of the Sufi masters playing in informal settings.. The CD contains 16 tracks including Brian Jones Joujouka Very Stoned. This tribute to Rolling Stones founder Brian Jones is a standard in the musicians repertoire.
Joujouka Black Eyes has been hard to come by in recent years but following the success of the Brian Jones 40th Anniversary Festival in July 2008 the CD is now available again.
"The contrast between the earthy drum rhythms and the delicate filigree of the flute work, sounding like some avian fantasy, is luscious. Listeners who only know this genre through recordings like Apocalypse Across the Sky owe it to themselves to hear Joujouka's flip side, the one without one ear tilted toward the world music market."

Here are September's art updates from the Lazarus Corporation. It's been a little quite because I've been on holiday for the past two weeks, but many projects have been continuing in the background.
So first of all, we'd like to mention an exhibition from some friends of ours:
Danse Macabre 2008
Danse Macabre 2008 at View From The Top, Nottingham, UK, from 29th October to 4th November 2008.Private View on Friday 31st October from 7pm to 9pm.Post Mortem in the Pit & Pendulum hostelry from 9pm until late.
Roll up, roll up, and step right this way... Let the Danse Macabre take hold of you as we lead you by the hand through the dark forest of the subconscious. But do keep up! Don't stray too far from the path, as you never know what strange fate may befall you. We have many wondrous and macabre sights for you to behold, so do draw up close as we weave our spell upon you.
Danse Macabre brings to you for the second year running an exhibition of 19 artists whose artwork draws upon the ethos of Gothic Romanticism.
The private view will incorporate a performance by Annette Foster (aka ‘Netty Page’, ‘Transgressa’) and compèred by prestidigitator Dee Christopher. Guests will be fortified by complimentary sinful cocktails served courtesy of the Pit & Pendulum and generously sponsored by Basilica Music. Choose your company carefully as you will be recorded on film for posterity by Trent House Studios and LuridTV for later amusement (wear what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law!).
Guest list applies at the private view so RSVP to info@dansemacabre-art.co.uk with your name as well as those of your companions to guarantee your places. However all are welcome to attend the Pit & Pendulum afterwards to network and socialise.

The Book of the Erinyes
We've recently launched a brand-new microsite for The Book of the Erinyes. This project - a limited edition handbound artist's book of manipulated photographs accompanied by text written in the style of a late 19th century apocalyptic tome transcribed by an opium addict - is something I've been planning since January.
The Book of the Erinyes website has a journal (read: blog) with RSS feed so you can keep up with the progress of the project.

The October issue of Mojo magazine carries Mark Paytress' 2 page feature article on the Brian Jones 40th Anniversary Festival in Joujouka You Should be Trancin'.
Mark reports on the his experiences at the festival and talks to Anita Pallenberg, John Dunbar, Mallim Ali Abdelsam El Attar and Frank Rynne. The article also features photography by Jill Furmanovsky.
Mark and Jill spent 4 days in Joujouka. They really got to know the Master Musicians and the village staying off the village square with Mohamed Hatmi aka Boujeloud and family.

Rock legend Jill Furmanovsky photographs Brian Jones Festival and Master Musicians of Joujouka
One of the music worlds' most enduring and celebrated photographers Jill Furmanovsky photographed the entire proceedings at the Brian Jones 40th anniversary Festival. Jill was great company and got on brilliantly with the Master Musicians and all the guests. We can't wait to see the results. You can see Jill's awarding winning work with everyone from Led Zepplin, Rolling Stones, Thin Lizzy, Ramones, The Clash etc and especially her photographing of Oasis' entire career, on her website

Plan JIMPROVISE 2008
Bonjour à toutes et à tous,
voici comme prévu les plans pour les accés aux rencontres, avec, en prime, un pré-programme des festivités,
PLAN : je crois que le plus simple pour tout le monde sera de passer par TOULOUSE, ou c'est en tout cas un bon repère, pour ce faire, depuis la rocade de la ville rose, suivre AUCH (A624,
puis N124) ; il s'agira d'abord d'une voie rapide, puis alternée de nationale à travers villages,
à AUCH, prendre la direction TARBES, MIRANDE (N21)
ATTENTION, à la sortie de Mirande, toujours direction Tarbes (N21), à quelques km (5/6 km) de la sortie de Mirande, ne pas louper sur la droite la direction MARCIAC, TILLAC (D16, puis D3 jusqu'à Marciac) :

PHOTO SATELLITE : le site est sur la zone d'activité à l'extérieur du village, Rua de TILLAC (D3), le grand carré clair en bas à droite sur la photo, presque aussi grand que le village ;
sur cette zone d'activité, l'entrée du site est située entre ABEILLHE Autos, un revendeur de voitures et camions, et Meubles LASSERRE, la scierie, en plus, maintenant, entre le site et l'entrée du village, il y a un rond point, le seul dans ce sens, et un petit supermarché SUPER U ; si vous y arrivez, donc, reprenez le rond point en direction de Tillac, c'est à 300 mètres :

Pré-PROGRAMME :
- JEUDI 14 aout, après-midi : Accueil des participantes-participants, logement, apéro, repas, discussion-rencontres, session commune de découverte,
- Sur le SITE : TOUS LES JOURS, à partir de 16h (en fait dès que l'envie est manifeste) après une grasse-mat', un long ptit-déj' et une bonne salade, début de Sessions, par petits ensembles (duo, trio, ...) décidés par les participants ou par tirage au sort, les rencontres pourront se poursuivre jusque tard dans la nuit, le responsable des passages sur le Site pendant toute la durée des rencontres sera Gilles VIGNES,
- LES20TROIS SOIRS, à 20h/21h, dans le CENTRE de Marciac : Sessions devant l'Office du Tourisme, sur la scène organisée par les gérants d'un stand d'instruments de musique, baptisée par eux-mêmes Offoffoff (sans concertation;)
- SAMEDI 16 à 19H : Session Danse-Musique à la Maison d'Exposition L'ANE BLEU, présentant des oeuvres de Bruno Loire, et en présence de l'artiste, déambulatoires possibles partant de différents points de Marciac, pour amener le public vers le lieu,
- DIMANCHE 17 à 10H : devant la Péniche-restaurant du Lac de Marciac, avec, pourquoi pas, une ballade-déambulatoire tout autour du lac jusqu'à l'apéro devant la péniche,
le responsable des passages en ville sera Stéphane "TARENTULE" ROULET,
- D'AUTRES PASSAGES-DEAMBULATOIRES EN VILLE seront possibles, notamment
devant les deux entrées de l'église de Marciac, suivant les envies, possibilités, à concerter sur place dès le jeudi soir, avec une éventuelle pré-ballade de reconnaissance des lieux,
le centre, à pied, est à 10mn du Site,
- LES20TROIS SOIRS, à 20h/21h, dans le CENTRE de Marciac : Sessions devant l'Office du Tourisme, sur la scène organisée par les gérants d'un stand d'instruments de musique, baptisée par eux-mêmes Offoffoff (sans concertation;)
